Satellite technology will operate in Azerbaijan, which will allow to phone from the board of the aircrafts, chief engineer of the State Radio Frequencies Department (RFD) Ilham Efendiyev told Trend , commenting on the recent decision of RFD, allowing to use GSM devices on the aircraft, which operate at a frequency of 1800 MHz.
The decision to permit using GSM devices on the aircraft was made at a meeting of RFD, which took place on October 31.
"Given that using fixed GSM terminals during flights is not possible, satellite communications systems will be used to phone from aircraft. The service is not envisaged to be used on the land, since the existing local networks of mobile operators also operate at a frequency of 1800 MHz, which can create firewall interference," said Effendiyev.
