Azerfon has finished testing 3G standard network services, which will soon be available for subscribers, Azerfon 3G Project Chief Serge Arbogast said.
He added that 3G services will be available in Baku and other major cities in the near future. At The 3G telecommunications services are partially available for some Azerfon subscribers, who can take advantage of data transfer and video telephony services.
"After the introduction of 3G networks there will be no need to change SIM cards, as stated earlier. It will be necessary to have a phone supporting 3G standard to use the service," Arbogast said.
He added that the company will continue operations to improve the network and accelerate the services. The company intends to introduce 28 services in 3G. They include conference call, tele-medicine, data transfer, e-commerce services, mobile TV, mobile banking, and GPS navigation.
The speed of 3G network data transfer is expected to reach 3.6-7.2 megabits per second.
