TeliaSonera puts 4G into commercial exploitation

TeliaSonera put into commercial exploitation 4G for subscribers, Azerbaijan's largest mobile operator Azercell Telecom said.

TeliaSonera Mobile Services Department head Kennet Karlberg said the use of mobile broadband communications is growing rapidly in northern countries, adding that clients need faster data transmission. TeliaSonera commissioned 4G services in large international cities such as Stockholm and Oslo.

Azercell Telecom, which occupies leading positions in accordance with TeliaSonera indices, regarded the commissioning of 4G as a significant event in the sphere of telecommunications.

The company voiced hope that Azercell subscribers will be able to use 3G technologies in the near future and further transit to 4G, which the company plans to introduce on the Azerbaijani telecommunications market.

TeliaSonera is a telecommunications market leader in Scandinavian and Baltic countries and holds strong positions in the Eurasian mobile market, including Turkey and Russia.

TeliaSonera was established in December 2002 after the merger of Swedish and Finnish mobile network operators Telia and Sonera. The company unites over 690,000 shareholders, and the largest is the Swedish government (37.3 percent) and Finnish government (13.7 percent).

TeliaSonera and its joint ventures serve over 100 million subscribers in 18 countries worldwide.
