TASIM project participants sign memorandum in Baku

Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 3
By Huseyn Valiyev - Trend:

The participants of the Trans-Eurasia Information Super Highway (TASIM) project have signed a memorandum of understanding in Baku.

The document is intended to outline the further implementation of the project and define the powers and roles of the participants, their financial costs and legal status.

Azerbaijan is represented in the project by the International Relations and Calculations Centre of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

On the Azerbaijani side, the document was signed by the head of centre Jalil Jafarov.

Currently, the TASIM project includes countries such as Russia (Rostelecom), Kazakhstan (KazTransCom), Turkey (TurkTelecom) and China (ChinaTelecom), as well as Azerbaijani Azertelekom.

The project includes creation of the main transit link from Frankfurt to Hong Kong. The network, which will bring together the largest information exchange centres in Europe and Asia, will stretch across Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia, China, and Kazakhstan till Germany. The alternative northern transit line will be constructed on the territory of Russia, Ukraine and Poland.

The project is aimed at reducing poverty and accelerating economic growth. It may also play a leading role in the region's development.

The TASIM project is meant to connect 20 countries. Its realisation will allow eliminating the 'information gap' between Western Europe and countries of the Pacific Basin.
