Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec.3
By Huseyn Valiyev - Trend:

Russia has sent a draft agreement to Azerbaijan on reducing tariffs on roaming services, Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media Nikolai Nikiforov told journalists on Dec.3.

The document will be signed by the ministers of the two countries, after which communications operators will join it, according to Nikiforov.

"The state does not regulate tariffs for cellular communication and roaming. This issue can be resolved on a voluntary basis and on the basis of agreements between communication operators. By signing the agreement, we demonstrate our political will to specify the price for international roaming as critically important services for many residents of our countries," the minister said.

If roaming prices are high, citizens do not use them at all. Demand for these services will increase if there are reasonable prices and accordingly, operators will earn more, Nikiforov said.

"We think that this agreement should be signed and the large passenger traffic between the two countries is the best proof of that," he said.

Additionally, signing a cooperation agreement that includes information technologies, postal service, and the use of radio-frequency spectrum, etc is also being considered, Nikiforov said.

Moreover, a preliminary agreement on consolidation of efforts in the development of start-up projects of companies in the sphere of information technologies has been reached, according to the minister.

"We believe that it is the systematic development of our cooperation, which has been going on for many years. It is peasant that Baku has become a point of attraction, which regularly hosts the exhibition "BakuTel", the meeting of the Regional Commonwealth of Communications which is a good opportunity and a platform for professional communication" the minister said.
