Azerbaijani Internet providers' transition to a new Internet protocol IPv6 will be intensified in the second half of 2014, a source on the Azerbaijani telecommunication market told Trend on June 18.

The proposals on the transition to Internet protocol IPv6 will be submitted to providers in the near future with the participation of representatives of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and High Technologies. The providers will be supported at the level of Azerbaijani primary provider Delta Telecom.

Some operators are working to pass to the new Internet protocol. This requires updating the software component and the partial replacement of obsolete equipment. The equipment used by the providers today meets modern standards. This will facilitate the process of transition from old IPv4 protocol to new IPv6 protocol.

Azerbaijani providers face difficulties due to the lack of free IP-addresses from the IPv4 address. The transition to the IPv6 new protocol will be a big breakthrough in this issue. This will eliminate problems with lack of IP-addresses in the AzNET segment.

The shortage of IP-addresses is typical not only for Azerbaijani Internet segment, but also the entire global network.

The new Internet protocol IPv6 has a huge number of IP-addresses and can address much more nodes than IPv4.
