Volume of Azerbaijan’s e-commerce market exceeds $1.9 million

The volume of Azerbaijan's e-commerce market stood at 1.5 million AZN as of January-July 2014, the country's State Statistical Committee said on Aug.8.

The total volume of retail e-commerce in Azerbaijan grew by 10.2 percent compared to the same period of 2013, according to the committee.

Legal entities and individuals which carry out e-commerce and are buyers of goods and services are participants of the e-commerce market.

Some 78.3 percent of goods purchased by the Azerbaijani population in an electronic form fell to legal entities and 21.7 percent to individuals. Non-food products accounted for around 90.3 percent of the e-commerce market's turnover.

The total volume of retail trade in Azerbaijan stood at 11.8 billion AZN as of January-July, 2014. The sales of consumer goods in the country increased by 9.1 percent compared to 2013.

Around 50.5 percent fell to consumer goods such as food, beverages and tobacco and 49.5 percent fell to non-food products. The specific weight of non-food products has increased by 3.3 percentage points.

The official exchange rate in Aug.8 is 0.7843 AZN/USD.
