Industrial production ups 7 percent in Azerbaijan

In January - October 2009 the amount of industrial production in Azerbaijan composed 17.7 billion manat, which is 7.4 percent more than the same period of 2008, State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan reported.

The amount of production in the extractive industry were 11.1 percent and amounted to 13.3 billion manat (75 percent of the gross industrial production), but the growth rate in the processing industry declined 7.6 percent (19.7 percent), and in power engineering, gas and water sectors - 5.3 percent t with a decrease of 9.8 percent.

During the report period, production of transport equipment sector amounted to 3.47 billion mant. The production of food products experienced significant growth. Production of sugar in the country increased by 3,7 percent to 235.200 tons of tea - at 9.1 percent (6.300 tons), meat - 8,3 percent (139.700 tons), milk - three percent (44.1 million decalitre), butter - 0.9 percent (12.200 tons), sparkling wines - 12,2 percent (33,200 decalitre), beer - 11,6 percent (3.3 million dec) and vodka - 12 percent (687.800 dec).

On Nov. 17, the official exchange rate is 0.8028 manat to $1.
