Time of light gas has passed: International Gas Union general secretary

Azerbaijan, Baku, November 17 / Trend Capital, A.Badalova /

Time of the light gas has passed, said the General Secretary of the International Gas Union Torstein Indrebo. According to him, the international financial and economic crisis seriously affected the global energy sector. "We can not expect a significant improvement in the near future," Indrebo said at the 7th International Gas of Russia - 2009 Forum, whose speech was broadcasted alive on Vesti television channel.

According to him, one of the consequences of the global crisis was the significant drop in demand for fuel. "In the first half of 2009, a significant reduction in consumption was recorded in several countries as compared to the same period of the last year," said Indrebo.

According to him, pricing policy, efficient use of gas is particularly important during the economic drop.

According to Indrebo, in addition, the investments in the energy sector decreased during the crisis. "Many investment decisions will be reconsidered, postponed, funding problems will be tougher due to the increased risk," said Indrebo.

The Secretary General of the International Gas Union said that today, natural gas markets become more global - the share of LN gas has increased in the overall supply, but at the same time, the value of pipeline, which carries out significant supply, was retained.

According to a board member of the E. ON Ruhrgas Company Johan Weise, who also spoke at the forum, the global economic crisis has strongly hit the European gas market. The level of excess supply and excess volatility will be observed, with which Europe will have to cope, he said.

Weise said that in winter, gas demand will increase in connection with the drop in temperature. Europe will need to stabilize the supply of gas, he said.

"With joint efforts, we need to try to stabilize the Ukrainian corridor. No matter how the events will develop, but we can not do without Ukraine, so we must work together to ensure the work of the corridor, said Weise. - It is obvious that if we once again face with a situation that occurred in January 2009, we will not be able to ensure the growth of the market, which we all need. Therefore, the guaranteed supply of gas should be provided under any circumstances. "
