Saakashvili hails Azerbaijani SOCAR’s efforts on gasification of Georgian regions

Georgian President Michael Saakashvili attended an event in connection with completion of the Samogrelo-Zemo Svaneti gasification construction object in Zugdidi (Western Georgia) before leaving for Ukraine. Georgian Energy Minister Alexandr Hetaquri, SOCAR Energy Georgia Company General Director Mahir Mammedov and SOCAR Georgia Gas Director Anar Mamedov participated in the ceremony.

Saakashvili lit the torch in the distribution facility and welcomed the Azerbaijani company's supply of fuel to Georgian population, "We will further care so that the country could develop infrastructure and possess gas, electricity and water," Saakashvili said

New enterprises will be built in Zugdidi after construction of gas lines, Saakashvili underscored  

Beginning from today 1,200 subscribers will receive gas in Zugdidi. Construction of gas supply lines is underway and it will cover the whole city.

"Zugdidi began to receive gas after 18-year break," Xetaquri said. "Our Azerbaijan counterparts are commissioning new facilities and this process will continue."

SOCAR Georgia plans to lay gas supply lines in Georgia's 24 regions to supply 150,000 resident of Georgian regions with gas.
