The Black Sea oil terminal of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) in Georgia has started Kazakh oil transshipments from the Tengiz Field.

"Transshipment has started and by the end of the year we plan to transship at least 2 million tons," a source said. Oil is supplied to the terminal by rail.

According to the source, the terminal started oil transshipments for the first time since beginning operation.

As a result of the operations, freight turnover increased almost threefold. Hence, the transport will be profitable not only for the company but also for the local region by creating additional jobs and increase payments to the budget.

According to Georgian government, the Kulevi oil terminal transshipped 2.1 million tons in 2009 compared to 1.3 million tons in 2008.
