Azerbaijan is interested in the Pan-Arab gas pipeline project, Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister Natiq Aliyev said this week during a meeting with Egyptian Petroleum Minister Amin Sameh Fahmy.

"The pipeline is interesting for us," Aliyev said.

He added that the construction of the pipeline, which will connect the Turkish and Syrian gas systems, will allow Azerbaijani gas to be transported via Turkey to Syria and Jordan.

The minister said a package of gas agreements signed in June envisage Azerbaijani gas supplies being sent in several different directions, including Syria and Jordan.

Earlier, Syria made a proposal to buy 1-1.5 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas over 20 years. Gas supplies can launch from mid-2011, Syrian experts believe.
