Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev received general manager of the Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission Bernard Bigot on Thursday.

The sides discussed the prospects of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union in the field of nuclear energy. The expansion of bilateral cooperation in the field of new technologies and the implementation of joint research and development and technological work were also discussed during the meeting.

Nursultan Nazarbayev and Bernard Bigot discussed the construction of a plant for the production of nuclear fuel assemblies at the Ulba Metallurgical Plant, which will be launched in the near future.

A wide range of issues concerning the development of alternative energy sources in Kazakhstan, a laboratory on introduction of "green" technology and environmental protection was also discussed during the meeting.

The sides expressed interest in the production of solar energy, including with the use of the Kazakhstan silicon, which is used in production of solar panels.

The President of Kazakhstan and head of the Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission pointed to the need for continued cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources, including the joint use of combination of alternative energy - solar, wind and hydro power.

One of the promising areas of cooperation is the development of the production of magnets with high efficiency based on rare-earth metals, which can be used in the production of various equipments.

Kazakhstan's initiative to develop alternative sources of energy is directly related to the theme of the application of Astana on the Expo-2017 - Future Energy.
