Spring field work has been started in the southern regions of Kazakhstan, the Kazakh Minister of Agriculture Asylzhan Mamytbekov said while speaking during a governmental teleconference called "on preparation for spring field work 2013."

"At present, spring field works have started in the southern regions. Its pace is quicker than last year. Spring crops are sown on the area of 83 000 hectares (23 percent), oil crops on 31.5 thousand Ha (9 percent), vegetables, melons and potatoes - 13.9 thousand Ha (6 percent), permanent grasses - 34.9 thousand hectares (36 percent)," Mamytbekov said.

"15.9 million Ha of lands will be occupied by grains, including 13 million Ha of wheat," he said.

According to a memorandum signed between the Ministry of Agriculture, akimats (authorities) of the provinces, "KazAgro" National Holding and "KazAgroInnovation" JSC for 2012-2016, territory of the lands allocated for wheat sowing is expected to reduce to 468,000 Ha, 3.5 less than in 2012, lands allocated for rice - 5.7 thousand Ha (6.1 percent), the lands under corn will increase by 5.6 thousand Ha, under other crops - by 76.8 thousand Ha.

Territory of the lands under oilseeds shall reach 1.9 million hectares, 43.1 thousand hectares more than last year, feed crops - 3.1 million hectares, over 265 hectares more than in 2012.
