The text of a new intergovernmental agreement on air communication which corresponds to the current level of bilateral relations was agreed and initialed at the bilateral negotiations between the aviation authorities of Kazakhstan and Turkey, the republic's Ministry of Transport and Communication said on Thursday.

As a result, the number of permitted flights between the countries increased by 50 per cent. Currently, it is allowed to run 42 flights a week.

The geography of regular flights of Kazakh air carriers to two more cities - Izmir and Bodrum which have unique locations has been expanded.

In addition to the points in Astana, Almaty and Shymkent, the points were opened in Kazakh cities ofKaraganda and Kyzylorda for regular flights of Turkish carriers.

In addition, the text of the intergovernmental agreement laying a legal base for opening of regular air transportation between the two countries was approved during the bilateral negotiations between the civil aviation company of Kazakhstan and the aviation administration of Sri-Lanka.

According to the results of negotiations, at the primary stage each of the parties will be given an opportunity to implement three flights a week between Kazakhstan's Astana and Almaty cities, and Sri-Lanka's Kolombo and Mattala cities.

In accordance to the parties' proposals, "SCAT" and "Air Astana" were appointed as carriers from Kazakhstan and - "SriLankan Airlines" and "Mihin Lanka Ltd" companies from Sri-Lanka.
