Zhandos Asanov became Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Speaking States (TURKPA), the Senate of the Kazakh Parliament press service said on Tuesday.
'The new Secretary General took up his duties on October 1, 2013, in accordance with a decree of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries', the statement said.
Assanov until recently was deputy chief of staff of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan.
The TURKPA Secretariat is located in Baku. As Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly, Assanov replaced the Azerbaijani representative Ramil Hasanov.
