Kazakhstan may establish agency for youth policy

Astana, Kazakhstan, Nov. 25

By Daniar Mukhtarov - Trend: The member of the Majilis (lower chamber) of Kazakh parliament, Aldan Smayyl proposed to establish a separate agency for youth policy.

"Today, young people should have their own separate body - agency. Today, there are many non-governmental organizations at parties, but they are not accountable to anyone, they do not even give a report to the youth itself. Will there be any result from such a work?," the MP said at the meeting of the expert group of Nur Otan party's curator for youth support.

He went on to add that in case of establishing a special youth agency all these questions will be asked from it.

According to the MP, another problem of young people is unemployment, and list of the unemployed is replenished by the rural youth. Smayyl said that unemployment can not be beaten until rural infrastructure is changed.

"It is not possible to solve this problem only with agriculture, and, in the case of creating an agency, such questions will be supervised. For example, Karaganda may lack specialists in the construction industry, but there a lot of such unemployed specialists in Shymkent. Labour ministry and youth committees should be acquainted with whole this situation, but so far young people have been looking for work on their own. I think it is necessary to create the agency in order to solve these issues," he said.

During the meeting, the head of the expert group, MP Meiram Begentayev said that the map of local youth organizations and their activities will be studied within a week.

"We planned to make a presentation of a draft map of youth organizations, which was created by the 'Youth' research center. We handed it over to local organizations, all received it, but there was not a response. Therefore we received a proposal to study the map of local urban and rural youth organizations, whether they existed really or not? " Begentayev said.
