A meeting was held at the Kazakh president's residence on Feb. 26. Two questions were considered there. One of them was about the implementation of the National Security Strategy of Kazakhstan, the other, security measures during the preparation and holding of EXPO-2017, Akorda reported on Feb. 26.

While approving the National Security Strategy, the current key trends were taken into account, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at the meeting.

"The world is changing rapidly," the president said. "New challenges appear. They force us to appropriately change our plans and actions in the future. The methods of influence, information technologies and methods of confrontation with them have been changed today. As one can see, at present, the constitutional system, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries are subjected to new destructive influences. In this regard, Kazakhstan must be attentive."

In the president's annual address to the nation, the stable development of Kazakhstan as a monolithic country that does not infringe the rights and freedoms of citizens for 23 years was stressed.

"I said that we must not allow any unreasoned "zigzags"," the president said. "It is necessary to develop quietly, as we did before, by ensuring the gradual improvement in the welfare of our people and developing the economy. The recent events have shown that some provocateurs can affect the situation in the country. The information technologies are working in a new way. We must respond to them."

The president stressed the importance of internal stability, tolerance and trust of the population.

"The stability in the country, universal equality, observing the rights of citizens must be the main directions of our activity," the president said.

Assistant President and Secretary of Security Council Kairat Kozhamzharov delivered a report on the national security and objectives for the coming period.

The president positively assessed the National Security Strategy of 2013. The necessity of finding optimal ways and mechanisms of responding adequately to existing risks and challenges was stressed.

There was a task to change the strategy given the new challenges and threats to Kazakhstan's security in the medium term.

While discussing the second issue, the president drew the participants' attention to the observance of some basic principles while ensuring the EXPO- 2017 security measures.

The first one is to attract the global best practice in the field of public safety in Kazakhstan.

The second one is to ensure the conditions for all participants and guests of the exhibition.

The third one is to introduce the uniform rules and safety standards.

In this regard, the president instructed to establish a special interdepartmental headquarters under the leadership of Interior Minister to organize the interaction of state bodies as part of the operations on ensuring the security at the upcoming exhibition.

Some specific instructions were given to the relevant state bodies following the meeting of the Security Council. The Secretariat of the Security Council was charged with control over their execution.
