Kazakhstan, U.S. discuss cooperation in criminal law

Issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the U.S. in the area of criminal law were discussed during the meeting of Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan, Askhat Daulbaev with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Nisha Desai Biswal in Astana.

Issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the U.S. in the area of criminal law were discussed during the meeting of Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan, Askhat Daulbaev with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Nisha Desai Biswal in Astana, Kazakhstan's Prosecutor General's Office said on April 1.

"The large spectrum of issues of bilateral legal cooperation, including the expansion and strengthening of the contractual framework and legal assistance in criminal law sphere were discussed during the meeting with the U.S. assistant secretary of state. Additionally, the issues of cooperation in the sphere of fighting terrorism and extremism, organized transnational crime, drug trafficking, cyber crime and money laundering were discussed during the meeting," Kazakhstan's Prosecutor General's Office said

The parties expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation. Based on the principle of reciprocity, Kazakhstan actively cooperates with the U.S. competent authorities in resolving the issues of combating crime, rendering international legal assistance on criminal issues and extradition of criminals, according to Daulbaev.

The prosecutor general talked about the main areas of activity of Kazakhstan's prosecutor's office, the steps taken for ensuring the lawfulness and order, and stressed that prosecutors pay special attention to the human rights protection in criminal proceedings.
