Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev explained introducing Karim Massimov for the post of prime minister during a meeting with leaders of the Majilis (lower chamber) factions of the Kazakh parliament, the president's official website reported on April 2.
The resignation of the government led by Serik Akhmetov and the introducing of the candidacy of new prime minister were considered during the meeting.
The president stressed that the current staff of the government fulfilled its tasks and thanked it for the work.
"Achieving the goals of the 'Kazakhstan -2050' strategy, taking into account the difficult international economic situation, requires new approaches," according to a statement.
The Kazakh president stressed that the tasks require a person with certain knowledge.
"The tasks associated with joining 30 world developed countries must be resolved," the president said. "We can also have difficulties amid the global financial crisis. It is necessary to skillfully work with international financial institutions and to attract investments into the country. It is necessary to supervise all these issues competently."
Earlier, the Kazakh president proposed Karim Massimov's candidacy for the post of Prime Minister by stressing that he has the necessary experience and knowledge.
Head of the parliamentary faction of the Nur Otan Party Nurlan Nigmatulin expressed his support to the president's decision, stressing that the proposed candidate headed the government during the previous global financial and economic crisis.
National Communists faction head Vladislav Kosarev also supported the Kazakh president's proposal, stressing that it is in the interests of the population.
Head of the Ak Jol parliamentary faction of the Kazakh Democratic Party Azat Peruashev said that the president's decision will be viewed positively, especially by the business community, Akorda reported.
