Kabibulla Dzhakupov was elected as the Chairman of the Lower House of the Kazakh Majilis (Parliament) by secret ballot.

"As a result of the secret ballot on election of the Speaker of the Majilis of the Parliament, 103 votes were "for" Dzhakupov, while one was "against", the Chairman of the accounting commission of the Majilis, Askar Bazarbayev said at the parliamentary session.

Dzhakupov previously served as the Vice Chairman of the Majilis of the Kazakh Parliament.

He was succeeded by Nurlan Nigmatulin, who was appointed as head of the Presidential Administration of Kazakhstan.
