Astana, Kazakhstan, May 3
By Daniyar Mukhtarov - Trend:
Kazakhstan may become a regional center for trade and innovation, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Shamshad Akhtar said.
"Kazakhstan is a traditional hub for commerce and innovation for us. And thanks to its strategic location on the ancient Silk Road, Kazakhstan imposes a huge potential for the industrial and socio-economic development not only for its people but also for the whole Central Asian region, and can become a model for other continental countries," she said at the 47th annual meeting of the Governors of the Asian Development Bank.
Kazakhstan is already taking impressive steps toward redefining its approach to growth, energy and the environment, according to the executive secretary.
Kazakhstan has adopted progressive strategies to increase trade and investment, and thanks to its position, the country is a bridge between East and West, North and South, and creates mutual ties all around, Akhtar said.
"Nevertheless, Kazakhstan can't realize this potential alone, it needs partners , regional partners which share the vision of Kazakhstan to create a more viable and dynamic subregion. Kazakhstan needs supporters who have capital and experience to support its initiatives and, ultimately, Kazakhstan requires regional and global multilateral private sector to invest in the construction of sustainable future that we want in Kazakhstan and Central Asia."
Now it is necessary for Kazakhstan to intensify its national economy and social transformation in order to expand its successful leadership in regional cooperation and coordination,
"The plans for the sustainable development of the country with effective implementation will continue further to contribute to the improvement of living standards, at the same time improving the environment. Herewith, the most important will be the formation and implementation of effective progressive policies that will help achieve four key indicators. We're talking about the launch of an inclusive balanced and sustainable development, we are talking about diversification and strengthening of the domestic economy, we are also talking about increasing the confidence of investors in the public administration and investment regime, " the ESCAP` representative said, while expressing confidence that Kazakhstan will be able to achieve the set goals.
