Israel will step up its cooperation with Kazakhstan, the Israeli Ambassador in Astana, Eliyahu Tasman told journalists on Monday, May 19.
"Israel will intensify its cooperation with Kazakhstan, which should have a positive impact on trade turnover between our countries," Tasman said.
He stressed that throughout recent years the trade turnover between the two countries has exceeded $1.5 billion.
"It is expected that the Israeli defense ministry's representatives will arrive in Astana this week to take part in the international exhibition of armaments and military equipment - 'KADEX-2014', where they plan to sign an agreement on military equipment supply," the Israeli diplomat said.
He went on to say that Israel's agriculture minister is also expected to visit Astana in June, 2014. The minister will discuss agriculture cooperation with Kazakhstan.
Tasman added that thanks to the latest breeding technologies, Israel has achieved high performance in animal breeding.
"For example, the daily milk yield in milk production is 45 liters per cow," Tasman said.
"In turn, the mayor of Kazakhstan's largest city of Almaty, Akhmetzhan Yesimov will arrive in Israel to attend the international congress of mayors, to be held between June 15 and June 19, 2014. We will also host an international exhibition on security issues in November, which will be attended by Kazakhstan's Interior Minister, Kalmukhanbet Kassymov. All this show that the relations have stepped up," he said.
Tasman went on to add that in recent years the Israeli embassy has been working on opening of direct air links.
"I expect that Astana-Tel Aviv or Almaty-Tel Aviv direct flight will be opened soon, as today the number of travels between the two countries is more than it was five years ago. The direct flights will last about five hours, significantly facilitating the contacts," Eliyahu Tasman said.
