Seven projects in the mining industry will be launched in Kazakhstan by the end of 2014.

Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov made the remarks at the V Anniversary of International Mining and Metallurgical Congress "Astana Mining & Metallurgy" held in Astana on June 13.

"Today, council on the mining industry, geology, subsurface use of solid minerals under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan is successfully operating. Thanks to the implementation State Program of Forced Industrial Innovation Development of Kazakhstan, 50 new productions have been commissioned in the mining industry. Seven more projects are scheduled to be launched this year," he said.

The plan for the development of the mining industry until 2018 has been approved by the Kazakh government, the PM said.

"Mining and Metallurgical Complex of Kazakhstan is one of the leading sectors of the economy, which share in the total industrial output is 18 percent and which employs more than 300,000 people," Massimov said.

He further added that over these years Congress has become a significant platform to discuss critical issues of mining and metallurgical complex.

"Over the past 30 years, the volume of world mining increased by 1.5 times. It is planned to hold the next meeting [25th World Mining Congress] in Astana in 2018. Kazakhstan will make all necessary efforts to hold a congress at the appropriate level," the Kazakh PM said.
