The World Bank will provide a $21.7 million grant to Kazakhstan for energy efficiency development, Kazakh Prime-Minister's web sited reported on June 18.

The corresponding agreement was signed by Kazakhstan Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Industry and New Technologies Asset Issekeshev and World Bank's Country Manager for Kazakhstan Sebnem Akkaya.

This agreement on increasing the energy efficiency in Kazakhstan will reduce energy consumption and improve energy efficiency at enterprises, schools, kindergartens, hospitals across the country.

Sebnem Akkaya noted positive achievements of the Kazakh Government in creating favorable conditions for the development of energy efficiency in the country and expressed the World Bank's readiness to support the partner in the implementation of the project by providing the world's best practices and institutional capacity development.

"This project will help to increase the capacity of the state in the field of energy efficiency, and we expect this project will bring measurable quantitative results and achievements through the use of energy efficiency measures at the individually selected socially important public facilities. The project will also help to develop a system to fund future energy efficiency projects," the representative of the World Bank noted.

The project increasing the country's energy efficiency will be under Industry and New Technologies Ministry's control.
