Astana, Kazakhstan, Sept. 30

By Daniar Mukhtarov - Trend:

Kazakhstan has opened its first plant for processing poultry manure, the Kazakh Union of Poultry Producers said Sept. 29.

The plant was opened in southern Kazakh city of Shymkent.

"The technologies, developed to process poultry manure into an organic fertilizer at the Shymkent Kus LLP, will allow processing the entire litter produced at poultry farms, and this will help to improve the environment," the union said in a message.

An increase in the production at poultry farms led to deterioration of the environmental situation in Kazakhstan.

The union said the poultry manure is a source of pathogenic organisms and poses a danger to humans and the environment. Therefore, it can't be recycled and used without processing.

The litter on most poultry farms is stored in manure storages, where it is kept for years.

The union said the annual operation of an average capacity poultry farm (having 40,000 egg-laying hens, or 10 million broiler chickens) leads to formation of 35,000 to 83,000 metric tons of manure mass and over 400,000 cubic meters of wastewater with high concentrations of organic components.

The union noted that Kazakhstan's new plant will prevent the accumulation of poultry litter at the plant itself.

It will also help to move the manure from the budget's expense side to the revenue side through processing.

Thus, the fertilizer, manufactured through processing of litter, is an environmentally friendly and highly effective organic product that can be used for all crops and in all types of soil.

Kazakh Union of Poultry Producers is a voluntary association of legal entities and individuals, who work in poultry industry and related areas to protect common economic interests, rights, and represent common interests at state bodies and international organizations

The union was founded in 1999. It currently includes over 70 enterprises.
