As envisaged by the law, a total of 16 deputies have been elected to the Senate - one from each region of the country and from the cities of Astana and Almaty.

Four of them were re-elected. Thus the Senate staff was renewed by 75 percent.

During election campaign, 88 candidates were nominated, however only 39 candidates were listed in the ballot-papers at the time.

Voter turnout in Kazakhstan hit 98.7 percent, meanwhile in Mangistau region and in the city of Astana it reached 100 percent. In six regions the voter turnout exceeded 99 percent.

A total of 12 ballot-papers were cancelled.

The average age of elected Senate deputies is 56 years. Seven of them have diploma in engineering, four - in agricultural sphere, two - in economy, two - in education and one in laws of science.

Among the new elected deputies there are four acting deputies of the Senate, nine work in state bodies, organizations, enterprises and institutions and two are engaged in business.

The process of voting and vote count was monitored by 387 observers, including representatives of candidates, representatives of political parties, public associations and Kazakhstan's media outlets.

"According to their preliminary assessments the electoral campaign was held in organized, open and democratic manner. All participants of the electoral campaign acted within the legal framework and in compliance with procedures, envisaged by the election legislation," the CEC said.

"A small number of appeals as well as absence of complaints on violations of electoral legislation, especially those related to the use of so called 'dirty' political technologies and 'black' PR, in our opinion, demonstrate the increased level of political and legal culture of the electoral process stakeholders", - the CEC Head Kuandyk Turgankulov noted.
