The Kazbat Kazakh peacekeeping battalion sent its two officers as observers of the UN mission to Western Sahara, the Ministry of Defence of Kazakhstan said Oct.10.

The main task of military observers is patrolling, monitoring and the situation report, in accordance with the mandate of the UN mission.

"Observers are sent to the mission without weapons, they are not involved in any conflicts and are not on anybody's side," the statement said.

It is also noted that soldiers in the mission are subject to the immunities and privileges of UN personnel.

It should be noted that Kazakhstan joined the Convention on the privileges and immunities of the United Nations in 1995.
