Kazakhstan celebrates the Independence Day between Dec. 16 and Dec. 17.

The Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed Dec. 16, 1991 the Constitutional Law "On the State Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan."

Under the law "On holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan", the Independence Day is the only holiday belonging to the category of national holidays.

The holidays are non-working days in Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan celebrates the Independence Day with festive concerts, mass festivities, and fireworks.

Prior to the beginning of the holiday, President Nazarbayev presented awards to outstanding citizens of Kazakhstan - culture, arts, sports, politics and military figures.
