The Attorney General of Kazakhstan Askhat Daulbayev and Italian Ambassador Stefano Ravagnan signed agreements on extradition of criminals and mutual legal assistance in criminal issues, the General Prosecutor's Office of Kazakhstan said Jan. 23.

"It testifies to the progressive development of legal relations with the European community, confidence in the legal system of Kazakhstan," he said.

Italy is one of the first European countries, which signed a full package of interstate criminal-legal treaties. In November 2013 the two countries signed an agreement on transfer of sentenced persons, ratified by Kazakhstan last autumn.

After the treaties enter into force, both countries will have the legal basis for rendering the mutual legal assistance and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of citizens.

The signing of contracts was another important action towards strengthening the partnership in the field of combating crime and improving the effectiveness of supervisory and law enforcement agencies in this direction, the sides said.
