Kazakh national air carrier Air Astana will reduce the fuel surcharge on domestic flights by 25 percent since 14 February 2015, the company reported on Feb. 4.
It will result in decrease in total price of the company's air tickets.
"For example, the fuel surcharge on Almaty-Astana-Almaty route will be reduced from 6,000 tenge (184.75 tenge = $1) to 4,500 tenge and the fuel surcharge on Almaty- Atyrau-Almaty route will be 7,500 tenge instead of 10,000 tenge earlier," the company said.
Reduction in fuel surcharge was provoked by recent decrease in fuel prices at Kazakhstan refineries, according to Air Astana.
"Air Astana will continue to monitor the market situation and react promptly to any significant changes in the aviation industry," President of Air Astana Peter Foster said.
Air Astana introduced fuel surcharge on domestic flights in April 2012 to partially compensate the increase in jet fuel prices. Meanwhile the company retained the rates on airline tickets, despite the devaluation of Kazakh national currency tenge in February 2014.
Air Astana is a joint venture of the Kazakh National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna (51 percent) and the UK BAE Systems (49 percent). The planes of the airline started implementing regular flights in 2002, and currently operate flights on 60 international and domestic destinations. The average age of the company's air fleet is 5.5 years.
