Signature sheets were issued to Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev for collecting citizens' signatures in support of his candidacy for participation in presidential election to be held April 26, the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan said March 11.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) established that the presidential candidate, Nursultan Nazarbayev, meets the requirements of the Constitution of Kazakhstan and Constitutional Law on Elections.

The same day, the CEC issued signature sheets to the candidate to collect the signatures of Kazakh citizens.

Under the CEC resolution, it is needed to collect at least 93,012 signatures of voters in support of the presidential candidate.

Authorized representatives organized the signature collection in support of the presidential candidate. The number and size of the groups for collection of signatures is not limited.

The filled in signature sheets in support of the presidential candidate are submitted to the territorial election commissions.

Then these commissions, in a five-day period, carry out validation of signatures involving the passport services' employees, and draw up the appropriate protocol and send it to the CEC.

Earlier, at a regular congress of the Nur Otan party, the delegates proposed to nominate Nazarbayev as a presidential candidate. The proposal got Nazarbayev's consent.

The congress participants voted unanimously for his nomination.

Aside from that, the country's linguistic commission ruled that Nazarbayev is fluent in the Kazakh language, the state language of Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan's president, according to the country's constitution, is elected by the adult citizens on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage through secret voting.

The president is elected for a term of five years.

The president's position may be held by a person who is Kazakh citizen by birth, no younger than 40, fluent in Kazakh, and who has lived in Kazakhstan for the past 15 years.
