Kazakhstan's Central Election Commission (CEC) registered Turgun Syzdykov as a presidential candidate for participation in the election to be held April 26, according to a message from the CEC.

The message read that Syzdykov was nominated as a presidential candidate by the Communist People's Party of Kazakhstan.

Earlier, the CEC registered the incumbent president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, nominated by the Nur Otan Party, for participation in the election.

Kazakhstan's president, according to the country's constitution, is elected by adult citizens on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage through secret voting. The president is elected for a term of five years.

The president's position may be held by a person who is a Kazakh citizen by birth, no younger than 40, fluent in Kazakh language, and who has lived in Kazakhstan for the past 15 years.
