It is planned to complete all the work on reconstructing the Petropavlovsk International Airport in Kazakhstan's north in 2016, the country's Ministry of Investments and Development said.

"Jointly with the general contractor, the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Investments and Development takes all possible measures to reduce the period of reconstruction without compromising the quality of work," said the ministry.

After the reconstruction, the Petropavlovsk airport will be able to receive such modern aircraft as A-320-200, A-310-300, Boeing 767-200 / 300, Boeing 757-200 / 300 without limitation.

Flights to the airport have been suspended throughout the whole construction period.

The airport's reconstruction is carried out as part of the state program. Four billion tenge (139.76 tenge = $1) was allocated from Kazakh government's reserve for starting the construction work. K-Dorstroi company became the general contractor as a result of the online tender.

The project envisages strengthening the pavement of the runway with bituminous concrete of 10 centimeters, extending it by 300 meters, expanding by 18 meters, as well as reconstructing the taxiway and apron.
