Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev and US Secretary of State John Kerry have discussed cooperation between the two countries, as reported by the Kazakh president's office.

A meeting between the leaders was held as part of Kerry's first visit to Kazakhstan.

Nazarbayev noted that Kazakhstan and the US actively cooperate, and the Kazakh people are grateful to the US for their continuous support of the country's sovereignty and economic development.

Nazarbayev noted that Kazakhstan and the US also cooperate on nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation and expressed support for the initiatives of US President Barack Obama in this sphere.

Kerry, for his part, praised the results of recent talks between Nursultan Nazarbayev and Barack Obama in New York.

During their meeting, the two presidents discussed such issues as non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, combating armed extremism, the situation in Afghanistan and fighting the "Islamic State".

Moreover, Kerry expressed hope that the close partnership between Kazakhstan and the US will result in serious contributions to the implementation of the planned five institutional reforms in Kazakhstan and the "100 concrete steps" plan.
