EBRD to finance energy-efficient projects in Kazakhstan

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will finance the replacement of street lighting systems to energy-efficient technologies worth 7.7 billion Kazakh tenges ($1=340.15 tenges as of March 29) in Kazakh cities of Ust-Kamenogorsk (or Oskemen) and Semey (or Semipalatinsk).

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will finance the replacement of street lighting systems to energy-efficient technologies worth 7.7 billion Kazakh tenges ($1=340.15 tenges as of March 29) in Kazakh cities of Ust-Kamenogorsk (or Oskemen) and Semey (or Semipalatinsk).

The corresponding agreement was signed between the akimat (regional executive body) of the East Kazakhstan region and the EBRD, akimat's press service said.

In particular, 4.9 billion tenges will be allocated for the project in Ust-Kamenogorsk city and 2.8 billion tenges - for the project in Semey city.

The implementation of these projects will reduce lighting costs by up to 60 percent: in Ust-Kamenogorsk city by 40.7 million tenges, in Semey city - by 30.8 million tenges per year.
