Kazakhstan’s trade turnover with the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) amounted to $8.06 billion in January-August 2016, which is by 29.1 percent less than the same period of 2015, Kazakh Statistics Committee said.
Kazakhstan’s exports to fellow EEU countries decreased by 34.1 percent to $2.42 billion in this period, while imports were down by 26.7 percent hitting $5.65 billion, said the committee.
A lion’s share – $7.56 billion – of Kazakhstan’s trade turnover with the EEU countries accounted for the trade with Russia. Despite this, Kazakhstan’s exports to Russia decreased to $2.19 billion in January-August 2016 as compared to $3.23 in the same period of 2015. The country’s imports from Russia amounted to $5.37 billion in the reporting period as compared to $7.22 in the same period of 2015.
Kazakhstan exports mineral products (33.6 percent of the total volume of the country's export to the EEU), chemicals (19.9 percent), metals and metal products (24.5 percent), products of animal and vegetable origin and ready foodstuff (10.2 percent).
The country mainly imports vehicles and equipment (24.1 percent of the total volume of the country's imports from the EEU), mineral products (15.4 percent), chemicals (18.2 percent), products of animal and vegetable origin and ready foodstuff (15.4 percent), metals and metal products (12.8 percent) from the EEU countries.
In 2015, Kazakhstan's trade turnover with the EEU countries decreased by 28.6 percent to $15.77 billion as compared to 2014.
The Eurasian Economic Union is an international organization for regional economic integration. Its members are Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.
