Assets of Kazakh banks down since early 2017

Total assets of Kazakhstan’s banking sector decreased by 2 percent in 1Q17 to 25.04 trillion tenges, the National Bank said in a message April 28.

Total liabilities of Kazakhstan’s banking sector have decreased by 2.7 percent since the beginning of 2017 to 22.098 trillion tenges.

The liabilities of second-tier banks in the national currency hit 54.7 percent, while their liabilities in foreign currency stood at 75.2 percent.

As much as 75.2 percent of the banks’ liabilities fell on customer deposits.

The loan portfolio of the banking sector decreased by 1.7 percent and hit 15.248 trillion tenges as of April. 1. The share of loans overdue by over 90 days hit 7.7 percent of total loan portfolio of the Kazakh banks as of April 1 as compared to 6.7 percent as of January 1.

Thirty-three banks were operating in Kazakhstan as of April 1.
