The skirmish between Kyrgyz and Uzbek border guards occurred on contested territory between the two countries on July 23, Kyrtag quoted the Kyrgyz State Border Service's representative Sayitzhan Eratov as saying.

According to Eratov, this territory has not been included in any agreement or document to be considered as contested.

"However, nevertheless, we can not say that it is Uzbekistan's territory. In fact, Uzbek border guards have intruded 5 kilometers into our territory," he said.

Uzbek and Kyrgyz border detachments clashed on inter-state border on July 23. One Uzbek soldier was killed in the skirmish, another was badly wounded and later died in the hospital. Kyrgyzstan asserts that the incident took place on its territory; meanwhile Uzbekistan assures the incident happened on its territory.

According to the chairman of the Kyrgyz State Border Service Kurmanakun Matenov, the final decision on the causes of the accident and on culpability or innocence of Kyrgyz border guards, who killed their Uzbek counterparts, will be made by military prosecutor's office.

Matenov added that 31 facts of weapons use have been registered on the border with Uzbekistan since 2010. Five Kyrgyz citizens were killed as a result, ten were wounded.
