Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry recalled the Kyrgyz ambassador to Tajikistan for consultations due to a cross-border incident that took place on Jan.11, Kabar agency reported on Jan.14.
The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan Urmat Saralaev was recalled to Bishkek on January 14, 2014 for consultations in connection with the incident with the use of a firearm in Batken province of Kyrgyzstan near the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border," the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said.
A cross- border incident occurred with the use of a weapon between the servicemen of the State Border Service of Kyrgyzstan and border troops of Tajik State National Security Committee near the main water intake structure of Batken region in Kyrgyzstan's Batken province.
During a verbal altercation Tajik border guards were the first to use a weapon against Kyrgyz servicemen, according to Kyrgyz State Border Service. A firefight ensued and both sides suffered wounds.
"The Kyrgyz border guards were fired on by the chief of staff of special forces units' of Border Troops of Tajik National Security Committee," Kyrgyz State Border Service said.
Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry sent two official notes to Tajikistan's Foreign Ministry on January 11, 2014 in connection to the conflict.
