A criminal case has been initiated against Kyrgyzstan's defense minister on suspicion of power abuse and embezzlement, RIA Novosti reported citing the State National Security Committee of Kyrgyzstan.

"The Anti-Corruption Service of the State National Security Committee of Kyrgyzstan and the Military Prosecutor's Office conducted the search operations," the press-service said. "They revealed a corruption scheme on the illegal use of budgetary funds at the defense ministry."

According to the investigation, senior officials of the ministry illegally transferred the ministry's budgetary funds to the accounts of private companies "for personal gain" through "Asker-Kurulush" state enterprise.

"A criminal case was filed against the defense minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, the officials of the ministry, as well as some representatives of Asker-Kurulush state enterprise," the statement said. "They are accused of the abuse of official position, forgery and embezzlement of property in accordance with the Criminal Code. "The investigation is underway."

Abibila Kudaiberdiyev is the Kyrgyz Defense Minister.
