No agiotage is being observed on the eve of presidential elections in Tajikistan, which will be held on November 6, according to Tajik political expert Vafo NIyatbekov.

The Tajik Parliament scheduled presidential elections for November 6. Emomali Rahmon, the republic's current president didn't express his willingness to participate in these elections.

"No pre-election agiotage is being observed yet," Niyatbekov told Trend by telephone from Dushanbe on Tuesday.

According to him, the republic's oppositional parties currently work on nominating a single candidate, however they have already worked out a single program which will be pursued by this candidate.

The political analyst noted that a certain split is observed in the republic's oppositional parties and currently, the main oppositional parties are the Islamic Renaissance Party and the Social Democratic Party.

According to him, there are misunderstandings within the oppositional parties, however an active race hasn't started yet.

"Currently, everything takes place silently and if to discuss the possibility of destabilization in the country, it is highly likely that it will not occur," Niyatbekov said.

He believes that each party leader of Tajikistan has a historical memory. For instance, Islamic Renaissance Party currently approaches this issue cautiously and doesn't want to repeat what happened in Tajikistan in 1990s.

Presidential elections are the election of a person, the expert said. He believes that Rahmon is more popular as a person than any other candidate.

"Over 70 per cent of the republic's population live in rural areas and they are facing urgent problems," Niyatbekov said.

According to him, Rahmon is popular among them as a person who stopped civil war, as a president and as a personality.

However, the expert believes that other parties will also have a certain small percentage of votes.
