Tajikistan, Afghanistan agree to expand cooperation in border security

The development and strengthening Tajik-Afghan cooperation was discussed Sept. 12 at the meeting of the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon with Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai, Tajik presidency reported.

Rahmon, drawing attention to the current situation in Afghanistan, in order to maintain peace, stability and unity, highlighted the establishment of national unity government in Afghanistan.

The sides also discussed ways of implementing joint plans and programs, the strengthening the transit potential of the two countries and cooperation in the energy sector.

They expressed confidence in further development of interactions of Tajikistan and Afghanistan in maintaining peace and stability on the common border, and combating illegal trafficking of drugs and weapons.

In this regard, Tajik leader stressed the need to enhance the role of the joint coordination committee of two countries' special services.
