A protocol on inter-parliamentary cooperation between the Turkmen Mejlis and Grand National Assembly of Turkey was signed during Turkmen Speaker Akja Nurberdiyeva's recent visit to Turkey, an official Turkmen source said.

Meetings in Ankara covered the priority aspects and perspectives of inter-parliamentary cooperation aimed at further progressive development of bilateral relations, as well as the experience exchanged in the legal field.

At a government meeting Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov emphasised the necessity to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation in general as an effective mechanism to strengthen the international legal framework of intergovernmental cooperation.

As it was noted in an official report, 'the historical ties between the two brotherly peoples and dynamic intergovernmental cooperation of Turkmenistan with the Turkish Republic are the basis for establishing the Turkmen Mejlis's mutually beneficial relations with Turkey's legislative body'.

During the visit the Turkmen delegation met with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic, the Turkish Foreign Minister, Chairman of the Grand National Assembly, Mayor of Ankara and professors and students of one of the educational institutions of the Turkish capital.
