President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov has received the newly appointed ambassador of Uzbekistan to Ashgabat Djavkhar Izamov, Turkmen government said on Thursday.

As the ambassador said, Uzbekistan attaches great importance to traditional ties of friendship and brotherhood, further development of long term full-scale cooperation with Turkmenistan.

Berdimuhammadov congratulated Izamov with his appointment to the responsible diplomatic post, "wishing him successes in this important mission on strengthening friendship ties and development of cooperation between fraternal Turkmen and Uzbek people".

During the meeting views were exchanged on prospects of interstate cooperation, successfully developing both in bilateral and multilateral format, first through authoritative international organisations and structures.

It was noted that in recent years trade turnover between the two countries has significantly increased and there are opportunities for a further increase in mutual trade and expansion of its range of commodity, investment activity, implementation of joint projects designed to serve not only the prosperity of the two brotherly countries, but the region as a whole.

In addition the fuel and energy sector, transport and communications were mentioned among the promising areas of partnership, cooperation which is due to the geographical location of the neighbouring countries and their transit potential.
