Italy hopes for progressive development of political, economic and cultural relations between Italy and Turkmenistan, in particular, within stirring up partnership with the European Union, Italian President Giorgio Napolitano said in his letter to his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov.

The message is timed to the twentieth anniversary of establishing bilateral diplomatic relations.

"I am glad to express the best wishes, prosperity, peace and progress to you and the people of Turkmenistan on behalf of the Italian people and on my own behalf," Napolitano said.

Berdimuhammadov's official visit to Rome in November 2009, as a result of which a solid package of intergovernmental agreements was signed, gave an impetus to relations.

Turkmenistan is interested in attracting major capital, advanced technology, supply of up-to-date equipment made in Italy.

The Central Asian country is also ready to increase export of petrochemicals and oil-refining products to Italy, as well as to expand the range of exported goods, including textiles and minerals.
