Ambassador: Norway, Turkmenistan strive for full partnership

Chairperson of the Turkmen Parliament Akja Nurberdiyeva received the credentials of Norwegian Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ole Johan Berna, the Turkmen government said today.

The diplomat expressed confidence that having considerable potential, the cooperation between the two countries has all the prerequisites to develop into the full-scale partnership meeting the current realities and mutual interests in the short-term prospect.

The ambassador was informed about the main directions and priorities of the internal policy of independent neutral Turkmenistan, as well as the structure and activity of the national parliament.

Berna was also received at the Foreign Ministry. Views on the further expansion of inter-state relations were exchanged.

Norwegian companies have previously expressed interest in the presence of the local oil and gas market. Statoil Hydro is considering the opportunity to participate in the development of the Turkmen part of the Caspian Sea shelf.

The Turkmen side considers itself key in signing the production sharing agreements through direct negotiations on the development of fields in the Caspian Sea is a priority for Turkmenistan. Local experts say that more than 80 percent of the resources are in sediment at a depth of more than 3,000 meters as well as in poorly studied oil and gas areas.

The prospects are associated with two major oil and gas basins - the Middle Caspian and the South Caspian.
