Turkmenistan, Iran discuss bilateral cooperation

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, April 1

By Huseyn Hasanov- Trend:

An Iranian delegation is on visit in Ashgabat to discuss issues relating to the Caspian Sea.

The delegation was headed by the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Representative for the Caspian Sea Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour.

Turkmenistan and Iran share a long land and sea border. It is expected that a high-level summit on the Caspian will be held in Astrakhan in the first half of 2014 which will discuss the draft convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea.

Turkmenistan and Iran implemented a number of joint large-scale projects during the years of long-term cooperation.

The strategic project for commissioning Korpeje-Kurt-Kui gas pipeline in 1996, as well as commissioning of Dovletabat-Sarahs-Hangeran pipeline in recent years can be mentioned as important projects of mutual concern.

Tehran and Ashgabat earlier said that they are holding negotiations on increasing the supply of Turkmen gas to Iran.

The two countries constructed the Dostluk Reservoir, and at the moment the North-South railway project is implemented on the base of trilateral agreement with the participation of Turkmenistan, Iran and Kazakhstan signed in 2007.
