Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Saudi Arabia's Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Turkmenistan Turki bin Khalid bin Faisal Al-Hashr, the Turkmen government said on June 17.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on cooperation, strengthened by a dialogue at the highest level.

It was stressed that the cooperation between Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia has recently reached a qualitatively new level. The agreements and prospects in promoting joint projects in various fields testify to this.

The diplomatic relations between Ashgabat and Riyadh were established in 1992.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov paid the first official visit to Saudi Arabia in April 2007. A general cooperation agreement was signed during this visit.

The two countries are exploring the opportunities for partnership in the fuel and energy complex, cement production and other building materials, as well as in agriculture, including animal husbandry, cultivation of cereals and forage crops.
