Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed an intergovernmental agreement on trade and economic cooperation Oct.9, according to a message from the Turkmen government.

President Berdimuhamedov is on an official visit to Belarus.

The agreement includes cooperation in delivery of agricultural, automotive, road building equipment and utility machinery from Belarus to Turkmenistan.

Presidents of the two countries also inked a joint statement.

During the ceremony, the parties signed an agreement on cooperation in preventing and addressing emergency situations, as well as a memorandum of understanding on major principles of cooperation in the transport sector.

Aside from that, the presidents signed the following bilateral documents:

- the agreement on cooperation between the history institutes of the two countries;

- the agreement between the Institute for the Study of Turkmen National Products Turnover and the National Centre for Marketing and Price Study of Belarus;

- the friendship and cooperation agreement between Ashgabat and Minsk;

- the cooperation agreement between the administration of Turkmenistan's Lebap province and Minsk Regional Executive Committee.

The parties also signed partnership documents at the level of specialized universities.

Trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Belarus grew by 1.3 times in eight months of 2014, compared to the same period of 2013, according to stats from the Turkmen side.
